Workers in Maryborough and Woodend will be able to learn new job skills to develop their careers at Barker Trailers, thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today announced $234,700 for the Barker Trailers Regional Workforce Development project through the Labor Government’s Regional Skills Fund.
The project will enable Barker Trailers to train and upskill 180 employees across the company’s manufacturing facilities at Woodend and create six new full-time jobs.
Barker Trailers will work with TAFEs and training providers to deliver leadership training to 25 employees and upskill all employees.
The project will include training across safety and compliance, leadership and manufacturing operations, which will deliver the workforce Barker Trailers needs to build on their existing operation and diversify.
Earlier this year the Premier joined Ms Thomas and Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll to mark the 10,000 trailer to roll off the Barker Trailers production line – a major milestone in the company’s 44-year history.
The Regional Skills Fund is a targeted grants program driven by industry in partnership with the tertiary sector, working to build local capacity and resilience, and create jobs.
