The Allan Labor Government is supporting more than 100 schools, councils and community organisations across Victoria deliver community initiatives to help reduce road trauma.
This year’s $1.5 million Community Road Safety Grants Program is supporting groups from Mildura down to the Bass Coast to deliver hundreds of road safety education initiatives and programs to keep communities safe.
The 232 funded initiatives include education sessions and campaigns for vulnerable and at-risk drivers, cyclists and pedestrians as well as programs addressing issues such as fatigue and high-risk driver behaviour.
This includes making it safer for students across the state including Ballarat, Gippsland, and Swan Hill to get to and from school through safer cycling programs as well as safer school routes programs.
In Macedon, Riddells Creek Primary School has received $2,400 for a trailer and 20 bicycles for their Bike Education and Maintenance Program.
Other initiatives include education sessions for newly arrived migrants to increase their Victorian road knowledge, learner and probationary driver programs, and anti-drink and drug driving programs for young Victorians.
The program will also fund roadside banners, speed advisory signage and mobile billboards as part of targeted community awareness campaigns to deter high-risk behaviour like speeding, drink driving, using a mobile phone, or driving tired.
This year’s $1.5 million investment is in addition to the $6.4 million invested in the Community Road Safety Grants Program across Victoria in the past five years.
