Locals and visitors to the Goldie area in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges are benefiting from improved mobile coverage thanks to the joint Albanese Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program (MBSP) and the Allan State Government’s Connecting Victoria Program.
A new macro cell base station at Goldie is providing new and improved 4G mobile coverage to areas that previously experienced limited reception.
Premier Jacinta Allan and Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas visited the new tower recently with Telstra to share the good news with the community.
In addition to improved mobile and data connectivity, the project enhances public safety communications during emergencies and natural disasters.
The mobile base station was jointly funded by the Australian Government, Victorian Government and Telstra under Round 1 of the MBSP.
It is among 1,400 new mobile base stations to be delivered under the MBSP, which has generated a combined investment of more than $1 billion.
The State Government’s $300 million mobile investment is part of the $550 million Connecting Victoria program to fast track better mobile and broadband in as many places as possible, especially in regional areas.
New rounds of the MBSP are being delivered as part of the Albanese Government’s $1.1 billion Better Connectivity Plan for Regional and Rural Australia. The plan includes funding to boost mobile coverage and resilience, and conduct an independent audit to better identify mobile blackspots and target investment.
