Daylesford’s Girl Guides now have a safer, more modern and welcoming home, thanks to the completion of hall upgrades backed by the Allan Labor Government.
On Friday, Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas represented Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney to open the revamped hall, alongside local Girl Guides and community members.
The upgrades have been made possible by a grant of $47,000 from the Labor Government via Regional Development Victoria.
Operational since 1954, the Daylesford Girl Guides Hall has been hosting programs to empower local girls and young women for decades, helping them to become confident, resilient, and engaged with their community.
Works at the hall have removed asbestos, replaced and repaired weatherboards, plaster and ceilings, while also upgrading the electrical system of the building to provide sustainable heating and cooling.
New roofing and insulation will ensure the Girl Guides and other groups are warm and dry throughout the winter months, while new toilets will make the building more accessible and welcoming for people of all ages.
These upgrades will ensure the hall is available to current and future generations of Girl Guides, and that it can continue to provide a base for the programs that will help to empower local girls to achieve their full potential.
Importantly, the works also ensure that other community groups, including afterschool and daycare providers, will also have access to a modern hall that is conveniently located near the town’s main shopping centre.
With an increasing number of families moving to Daylesford and the surrounding region for work opportunities, the hall upgrades will ensure that young people continue to thrive and enjoy a rich community and social life.
The Labor Government’s support for the Daylesford Girl Guides Hall is part of a record investment of $45 billion since 2014 into projects and programs to support regional and rural Victorian cities and towns to be even better places to live, work, stay and play.
These investments mean more locals have jobs close to home, more communities have the infrastructure they need to thrive, and more visitors can experience everything the regions have to offer.
