TARADALE YOUTH SPACE OPENS

Taradale’s young people have new dedicated active recreation facilities in the heart of town with the completion of a new pump track, hit up wall and more, thanks to support from the Victorian Government.

Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today joined Mount Alexander Shire Mayor, Cr Matthew Driscoll and the local community to officially open the new youth recreation space made possible by a $300,000 investment from the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

With more and more families moving into the district there’s growing demand for recreation infrastructure that caters for more young people wanting to be physically active.

The new youth space replaces the previous disused tennis court with a dedicated youth venue complete with a pump track, skateboard and scooter mounds, and all-weather court playing surface complete with a basketball ring with soccer goals underneath at each end, as well as a hit-up wall.

The existing shed has also been refurbished and features a new veranda, and the addition of picnic tables, bench seating, and fencing, with landscaping works transforming the space into a fun and functional youth hub.

A new pedestrian crossing also ensures a safe and easy walk to the adjacent Taradale Mineral Springs.

Designed in consultation with young local residents, it provides a safe and welcoming area for young people to get together, socialise and develop their skills.

Over the past decade the Government has invested more than $1.9 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure.

The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is also providing more than $23 million to continue delivery of community sport and active recreation infrastructure, and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.

Mary-Anne Thomas MP acknowledged Mount Alexander Shire Council for its financial contribution of $207,454 and commitment to delivering the project.
